vrops 8.2 custom group using tags

Hello,

easy question, is there a way to create custom group using tags containing a string. Tag contains p.e. "Tier 1 - VDi" or "Tier 1 - DB":

searchwoand.jpg

but that is not working and not finding anything.

Have to use

searchand.jpg

and that works, but leads to other problems, can use four different tag values in one result. Of course "string" or 'string' is not working.

Hi,

Try it with [< >] around it or just [ ] that should work.

Somehow it works now.
The other problem is: I'm searching for p.e. "Tier 1" as Tag value, but I have it twice, in two tag categories.

Can I select tag-category in search criteria in screenshot above?

Can I select vm torage policy in search criteria in screenshot above?

Yes that should work. Replace "summary|vsphere tag" with the tag category name

I can't write "summary|tag category name" , there is no property "tag category name" in tree list.

Oh my bad I see where you went going wrong. From the first drop down menu select tags instead of properties.

Also check out the grayed text for the filtering options.

it works with datastore as object type

I need it for virtual machines

These 2 tags above are making tag based storage policy (Tier 1 - DB).
Need to filter vms with that storage policy

I've lost you there... Are you talking about tags or storage policies?

vm storage policy "Tier 1 - DB" is defined with 2 Tags in pic. above

I can find a datastores using those 2 tags.
Need to find vms using datastores defined with 2 storage policy tags.

A bit of background here.
Tags are assigned to (tag) categories. In my case I have a tag called  "vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager" assigned to category "Applications":

In my case the "Application" category is associated to VirtualApp and VirtualMachine

In your case they as associated to datastore/datastorecluster? Thats why only the datastores show up.

I'm guessing you want to see a list of VMs based on storage policies, right? Thats not possible OOTB. You could create tags based on storage policies and associate those to VMs.

Yes, I came to the same conclusion.

In that way I have a solution if having one or more virtual disks in same datastore tier.

But if I have as I have some vms with more disks in different datastore tiers, problem is which policy and alerts to apply.
P.e for virtual disk in "tier 1" latency of 20ms is warning, but if second or third disk is in tier 3, 20ms are OK.

I don't think to be the first one having that request, there must be a way to do it. I'm only a beginer in vrops and not seeing the solution.
