I am attempting to get the difference between the network traffic that stays inside a virtual switch and doesn't touch the physical network and the network traffic that does touch the physical network. In the vSphere UI under operations -> All metrics -> Metric selector there are these two metrics:
Operations -> All Metrics -> Host System -> Network -> Total usage rate (KBps)
Operations -> All Metrics -> Virtual machine -> Network -> Total usage rate (KBps)
Is it possible for me to use these metrics (or some other ones) to deduce how much traffic is hitting the physical network vs how much is staying inside the host? I wasn't sure if "Host system->network->Total usage rate" would give me the total network throughput that is leaving and entering the physical NICs of the host or if that figure is something else?
