vROPS Custom Group / Object Relationship Question

Hi,

When creating a Custom Group or Application within vROPS (e.g in order to create a custom dashboard for an application group), is there any way to include all child objects for a given VM?

E.g if you have a VM object that is also running the EP Ops Agent and hosting a SQL database, you might want to create membership criteria that groups all three together.

Currently i'm using vSphere tags (Application Name, Tier etc - see screenshot) to define group membership, but that only gives me the VM objects and not the EP Ops Agent or Operating system objects for each VM.

Whats the best way to create these relationships in vROPS?

Dan

What you probably want to do is select the Objects to always include option at the bottom of the Custom Group window and there you can select the Adapter Instance > EP OPs Adapter > Select your VMs that are listed there for the EP Ops Adapter.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

So there is no way to automatically pick the EP Ops adapter objects up based on their existing relationship?

It seems sub-optimal to have to define the group on a VM by VM basis, as that negates the benefit of using vSphere tags, and also won't dynamically update group membership.

Dan

Not sure if this would help but seems like a bit of work Cloud Management Marketplace | Solution Exchange
