vCenter Operations Manager 5.8.3 is now available

vCenter Operations Manager 5.8.3 is now available

What's New

vCenter Operations Manager 5.8.3 is the latest release of VMware's integrated operations suite, converging performance, capacity, and configuration management. This new release introduces the following enhancements.

Support for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP3 Operating System

vCenter Operations Manager version 5.8.3 supports SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP3. If you upgrade vCenter Operations Manager from an earlier version to version 5.8.3, you can upgrade the existing operating system to SLES 11 SP3.

Interaction of the Top-N Widget with Provider Widgets

The Top-N widget can now interact with other providing widgets as a receiving widget and can also filter contents based on the source of the interaction. The Top-N widget can also receive a widget interaction resource and use that resource as part of the tag filter for its result list.

The Data Collection Results Widget

This Data Collection Results widget lets you run an action and view the results of the actions that are initiated. The results of the past actions are stored in the database. The Execute Action access right is required to view actions and action statuses, run actions, and delete actions in the Data Collection Results widget. The data retention policy has been enhanced to automatically clean up the action tasks history. You can also view a list of recent tasks and view detailed and associated object information for selected tasks on the Recent Tasks tab of the Support page in the vCenter Operations Manager Custom user interface. You can also filter tasks and detailed information based on selected criteria in the  Recent Tasks tab.

This widget can be used for the VMware vCenter Operations Manager for Horizon adapter version 1.7 only.

Port WWN and Storage Path Name for Host Bus Adapters

Added the Port WWN for HBAs and the Storage Path Name as metrics. The Port WWN for HBAs and the  StoragePath (Target WWN in StoragePath) are exposed by the VMware vCenter Adapter. The Port WWN information appears in the vCenter Operations Manager UI under the Host > Operations > Details > Storage > HBA tab. Use the HttpPostAdapter to view the Storage Path Name. You cannot view the Storage Path Name from the vCenter Operations Manager UI.

String Type added to the Resource List Widget

The Resource List widget displays the string type in the string metric columns.

Various bugfixes, including:

  • Wrong Scale in Disk Space Graph for Virtual Machine Capacity Usage
After running a waste, stress, and capacity report for any Virtual Machine, the Disk Space for Virtual Machine Capacity Usage is graphed in units of TB over time instead of GB over time.
This issue is resolved in this release.
  • vCenter Operations Manager health data is not displayed in the VMware vSphere Web Client when a registered vCenter Server is not accessible
When two or more vCenter Servers are registered with vCenter Operations Manager and one of the vCenter Servers is not accessible, the information in the Health tab of the vSphere Web Client for the vCenter Sevrers that are accessible, does not appear.
This issue is resolved in this release.
  • Unable to change the admin password after upgrade to vCenter Operations Manager 5.8.3
vCenter Operations Manager 5.8.3 has implemented a stronger password policy. If the new admin password does not fit the policy, the password is not accepted.
Workaround: Provide a new password that is a minimum of eight characters, with at least one upper, one lower, one digit, and one special character. The new password must not be one of the most recent passwords; the last five passwords are not accepted.
This issue is resolved in this release.

anyone else having issues with getting the PAK file to upload/run for the OS upgrade?  My upload had ran for over two hours with no change.  I tried to see if I could do the upgrade by dropping the PAK file directly onto the UI VM via SCP and run the va_sles11_spX_init.sh script but it doesn't seem to be there.  Any help would be appreciated!

Nevermind figured it out.  Had to upgrade to 5.8.3 before I could upgrade the OS to SP3.
