guys - do read the release notes this time  - there's additional security hardening on the appliance.

this includes stricter password policy and expiration.

Check the release notes on the upgrade as per gradinka. The pw complexity is increased and you may need to update your password given age/complexity changes.

No - I opened this thread because the INSTALLATION default password was not accepted.

I don't believe I mistyped 'vmware' 3 times - none the less the 4th time it was accepted - weird - It reminds me of the VM console bug

VMware KB: Repeated characters when typing in remote console

Maybe you are the root account is locked after several failed login attempts?

You can login int to the vcops ip over ssh with login ''admin' and try:

su -

Password:

Account locked due to 9 failed logins

This issue is corrected in the following actions:

sudo pam_tally2 --user=root --reset

and try again root\vmware

Thanks levonti - this fixed my issue. Very strange that this happened, as this was a fresh app (v5.8.1) that was just deployed through the web client. *Shrugs*

Just wanted to add a very late reply in case anyone deploying the vCOPS appliance version 5.8.5.0 is looking for the default installation password for the vCenter Operations Manager Administration web interface. Lyghtnin above originally shared it:
