Trying to create a dashboard in a trend graph that displays the number of Operating systems we have over a certain period of time such as Windows 2008, 2012, 2016 and windows 7/10. All i seem to create is a bar graph which gives a point in time of how many we have but i cant do it over a period of time.

Create a super metric with the count function to calculate how many VM's you have for a certain OS like Windows 2012. You can do it for example on a Datacenter level
Enable the super metric in the policy and select the created super metric in a trend view.

I've written a blogpost about it, check it out here.
Hi RickVerstegen. Thanks for putting this together. I gave it a go yesterday but i couldnt get any information to be displayed. I noticed you tried this on 7.5 while i am running 8.1. Im also using the standard addition of vRops. Do you think this could make a difference?
Hi abugeja
For 8.1 you need to use a different property when creating the custom groups for the different operating systems.
In 8.1 you should use the property “Guest OS from vCenter”. For earlier versions you can use property “Guest Full Name”
