SCOM can't discover vRops snmp

Hi

Trying to send snmp traps from vRops to scom - The trap part is setup in the vRops and works, but scom can't discover vRops, as there is no snmp deamon running on vRops and therefore scom won't accept snmp traps.

Anybody found a way around adding vRops to scom so it will recieve traps ?

Hi Michael,

I have had the exact same problem and have gone via multiple VMware contacts speaking with various technology specialists and of course the problem is a SCOM one. My current line of investigation is to have Linux box running the SNMP daemon the same IP as the vROps appliance (temporarily disconnected). That way SCOM can discover that IP and will then accept "solicited" traps from it. My only concern is, once the appliance is back on the right IP, will SCOM want to periodically discover the device again. The discovered device will certainly alert in SCOM as vROps will not respond appropriately and I still don't know if SCOM will accept traps from a discovered network device in maintenance mode.

If all the above works. We still have the problem of getting the MIBs into SCOM so SCOM can recognise the format of alerts that get sent to it. Ideally, without paying for a third party tool to do it.
