Not able to power-on the windows VM on ESX 4.1

Iam not able to power on the windows VM. Iam getting the following error when trying to power on this VM..

Reason: The system cannot find the file specified.
Cannot open the disk '/vmfs/volumes/4c64253b-f114f230-86ee-002564fed41c/blr-vem-labmanager/654/000654-Windows_2008-R2_WebServer_64bit-0-0-scsi.vmdk' or one of the snapshot disks it depends on.
VMware ESX cannot find the virtual disk "/vmfs/volumes/4c64253b-f114f230-86ee-002564fed41c/blr-vem-labmanager/652/000652-Windows_2008-R2_WebServer_64bit-0-0-scsi.vmdk". Verify the path is valid and try again.

I have already verified the path and it is correct.

HI,

Looks like your VM's disk file has been misplaced or deleted or moved to some other location.

Browse into the datastore using the path seen in the error message and as mentioned check if the disk file is available there or not ?

As said earlier, I browsed the respecitve datastore and found that the .vmdk files in the correct path .

The VM's vmware.log file should give you a hint on what is causing the error. Either take a look at the log or attach it to your next post.

Either the files in the 652 folder are missing or the link in the 654 vmdk is incorrect. Please double check all the files in both folders are in place. If you think everything is ok, then attach all the header vmdk files. These are the small - a few hundred bytes - vmdk files. (you need to access them from the console or scp) These text files contain the disk's geometry as well as the link to their parent disks.

Hi Andre,

Inside the 652 folder there is only one vmdk file with named as "000652-Windows_2008-R2_WebServer_64bit-0-0-scsi-flat.vmdk". But, the specific file is missing in the 652 folder "000652-Windows_2008-R2_WebServer_64bit-0-0-scsi.vmdk"

I also logged into the respective ESX through SSH client and found there are two vmdk files [along with other files]inside the folder 654 "000654-Windows_2008-R2_WebServer_64bit-0-0-scsi-delta.vmdk" and "000654-Windows_2008-R2_WebServer_64bit-0-0-scsi.vmdk"

If the header vmdk is missing, you can recreate it using http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1002511. In addition to the description in the KB article you need to set the CID in the newly created file to the value of the parentCID of the existing 000654-Windows_2008-R2_WebServer_64bit-0-0-scsi.vmdk.

If you have trouble doing this, attach the 000654-Windows_2008-R2_WebServer_64bit-0-0-scsi.vmdk to your next post and I will create if for you.
