For Ex: if some service x stops on a VM then it should throw error? how to do that?

I think this is possible.

You can do that by configuring vCM (VMware vCenter Configuration Manager Features: Server Provisioning and Application Stack Deployment) and using vCOps / vCM integration. vCM is the way VCOps can look inside your guest OS.

Look at VCOps How it works page, Detect When Changes Impact Performance section (VMware vCenter Operations Management Suite How It Works: Compliance Management & More). There you can see events based on guest OS services changing state.

You have some deploy/configuration to do, but this shoul dbe the way to accomplish this.

Thanks,

The VIN and Hyperic products also offer insight at the "what's going on inside my VM" level.

Overall, it's a good idea to review all the suite products (vCM, VIN, Hyperic) and see which suits best your needs.

And of course, all integrate with vc ops Smiley Happy

Venkat_A,

You inspired me to quickly write a blog post detailing how you can monitor a Windows service with Hyperic and vC Ops.... let me know if this helps?

What's Included in the Suite

vCenter Operations Manager

Operations dashboards, performance and capacity management.
vCenter Configuration ManagerChange, configuration and compliance management.
vFabric HypericMonitoring of hardware resources, operations systems and applications.
vCenter Infrastructure NavigatorApplication discovery and dependency mapping.
vCenter Chargeback ManagerCost metering, showback and chargeback.

See: VMware vCenter Operations Management Suite: Hybrid Cloud Computing

So all three vCM, Hyperic and VIN are part of the suite.

Thanks,

Alex D.
