Is VMware vCenter Server capable running on linux ?

Hello all,

I can't make heads or tails from ESX documentation, there are no straight answers.

Is it possible to run VMware vCenter Server on linux host ? everywhere I see just winNT and XP support... in our environment is only linux hosts and one or two win7 for running vSphere client...

Is there any solution without me throwing money out to buy windows XP ?

Regards,

Vlad.

vCenter Server is only available as a Windows application, so you need at least Windows XP Pro 64-bit to run the current version (4.1) of vCenter Server. see http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere4/r40/vsp_compatibility_matrix.pdf (Operating System Compatibility for vSphere Client, vCenter Server...)

vCenter version 4.x only runs on Windows.

There have been rumors about a future version running on Linux - but VMware does not comment on future products or versions.

Personally, I had the same problem. Im not adding anything new to this discussion only to note that forcing users to use MS for their application is a drag. All the tools, applications, and wherewithal that I have in my environment are rendered moot when using windows platforms.
