If you are using snapshot based backups via Netbackup or Avamar, or whatever, than the entire .vmdk is getting backed up and all configuration should be retained upon restore. I believe VDP (which is what I use for appliances) will also restore all settings and configurations. To be fair, I have not tested it on vROps to see that all configurations get restored.
