Custom UI features

I am determining who should have access to the custom UI, and who shouldn't.  I am using version 5.7.1 Enterprise version.  What are all the things I can do in the custom UI that I cannot do without the custom UI?

  • Key Performance Indicators
  • Supermetrics
  • View data from third-party adapters like EMC, NetApp, etc.
  • Create custom dashboards

Is there anything else I am missing?

Thanks!

There are lot of granular things like Logs, Adapter configuration and other things. But on a high level that's sufficient. You should not bother about the features in custom dashboard to give access to users because when you give a user access to custom dashboard it does not mean he can see everything that is there in the dashboard. You can still create a role and add only things that he has to see(like a storage guy might need just metrics fetched from netapp adapter). So go ahead and create local users/ LDAP users and give them specific roles.

OK thanks.  I think also I have to not only configure custom adapters in the custom UI but also go there to actually get the data they bring in from the storage array for example?

Yes that's right. All your data that's fetched from custom adapters are also stored there. So organize the data that have to be exposed to the respective teams in respective dashboards and give them access accordingly.

OK thanks.  It would be good if there were an article somewhere that outlined point by point all the features in each UI and what is available on each, and what the differences are and what the significance of those differences.  I haven't been able to find anything clear, concise and readable yet either in VMware's docs or elsewhere.
