Using a Configuration Element in VRO 8.x

In VRO 8.x.  how would one use a "Configuration Element" in an action or workflow? This has changed radically from prior versions. I don't see any way to bind to a variable.  Is this done within the script through some reference ?

I see the documentation that describes how to create the "Configuration Element" in VRO 8.x but I cant find an docs on how it can be used.

Any help would be much appreciated.

In our workflows, we typically create the variable with a type Configuration Element.  Then in the Value box, it populates with available configuration elements.  So we don't tick the bind flag, we just let it populate with the config elements, search for the one we want, and select it.
