Does vCAC support provisioning virtual desktop?

We are trying to configure vCAC accordingly to support some of out  internal requests but didn't find much information in the documents. We  are hoping if any one of you would be able to help and provide useful insight on the below topics:

1] can we provision a virtual desktop on resources close to the user's location?

2] can we automate a new employee onboarding process including provisioning a new virtual desktop?

thanks in advance, appreciate yr help.

Yes and Yes.  vCAC can provision desktops in a number of ways.  It supports cloning whihc includes thin-provisioned machine.  It also supports WIM deployments and Citrix PVS provisioning of desktops.  You can also optionally utilize Citrix XenDesktop as a broker.  View Support is on the roadmap for a future release.

You can conifgure vCAC to support placement decisions.  You may also want to create custom workflows that leverage external data sources to assist in the placement of workloads closest to the users. There are many companies using vCAC today for user on-boarding.  How you decide to utilize really depends on your needs.

Thanks for your response. Appreciate your feedback.

As you mentioned, VMware View is in the roadmap, if we use view, is it more of a straight-fwd approach compared to the work around currently supported by vCAC now? Is this supported as part of vCAC OOB or do we need to configure anything to achieve this? Again, any particular document or a blog that can help us achieve this?

Any process on how to go about creating custom workflows? A document to help start with?

Thanks for your help.

From what I understand View support is going to be out a little ways, but when released it will be an OOB solution.  As of the moment there isn't much of a work around to get view working.  It's actually something I have been working on for a little while now and hope to actually get completed.  The workaround I'm putting together relies on vCAC to create a desktop and then register it with view so no view pools at this point, maybe eventually.  I don't have any articles on this yet, but when I do i will post it to this thread.
