Application loading is having a problem. Contact your system administrator

Hi All,

Trying to get my first VCAC 6.0 environment up and going, suffering a lot of pain in the process. I’ve had to redeploy the appliances 8 times so far to try and overcome various tricky little issues. Just about thought I had it, created my first tenant and tried to login, only to receive the message ‘Application loading is having a problem. Contact your system administrator’.

I’ve tried rebuilding everything from scratch a couple of times, and it always falls over at this point. Google hasn’t heard of this message and I can’t find anything on VMTN.

Does anybody have any ideas?

We experienced exactly this same issue in our environment and it was because the saml token was too large.  Try creating a test user that belongs to very few groups.  My guess is you are using a user that belongs to many groups or has some attributes that are making the token very large. If you are having the same issue as I am based on this symptom then we should see a fix for it as it is a known bug.

This is very generic system error. You should try to describe a bit more of the steps that you have done so far and what was working. Also, going to the vCAC VA /var/log/vcac/catalina.out and try to see or post of the exceptions there. Also, have you installed the IaaS successfully. Going to https://vcacva-ip:5480, login and check if all services are displayed as registered.

We are also seeing this problem and confirmed with technical support that it is the same problem qc4vmware cited above.  We were told there would be a fix for this released middle of February (6.0.1).

You can find a description of the problem in the release notes on the documentation site.  It's the paragraph related to SAML tokens larger than 8K.

Thanks all. Since making my initial post I've tried rebuilding the environment from scratch again, unfortunately I seem to be hitting a different error on every install attempt. I'm currently in the process of re-downloading the installers again in case a corrupted download is responsible for all of my woes.

I was attempting to use a user account that was a member of a large number of groups so the SAML token issue was quite possibly the culprit. Once I can get through an install without any errors I'll test it out and report back.

Let us know exactly what error you hit.  I think I have run into them all at this point.  I highly recommend following this guide.  http://www.kendrickcoleman.com/index.php/Tech-Blog/how-to-install-vcloud-automation-center-vcac-60-p... .  VMware should be pretty embarrassed by the fact it takes a blog post as detailed as this along with a powershell script that someone created to make the install go somewhat smoothly.  I gave them a little slack for the earlier versions since it was an acquisition but at this stage in the game there is really absolutely no excuse for the hoops you have to jump through.

I'm running into this same error and am not having any luck after several rebuilds.  How can I confirm if I'm affected by the SAML token length bug?

From catalina.out:

2014-02-08 20:19:01,811 [tomcat-http--61] [shell-ui] WARN  com.vmware.vcac.platform.rest.RestTemplateIpv6.handleResponseError:524 - GET request for "https://<vcac appliance FQDN>/branding-service/api/brandings/effective" resulted in 400 (Bad Request); invoking error handler

Ok, pretty sure this is the issue.  I'm able to use an account that belongs to a small number of groups.

Finally managed to get the environment up and going. After redownloading the installers, avoiding the SAML issue and following the advice provided here and here I have a working environment to play with. Smiley Happy

Thanks all!
