vmotion between skylake and cascade lake

Hello,

Do you think vMotion (vsphere 6.5 u2) might work properly between skylake host and cascade lake host without activating EVC?

Actually I am asking this question because it looks like that cascade lake is 2nd generation of skylake (same pinout, socket, features...).

Many thanks,

Try it and see what happens - you'll get a validation error if it's a problem.

Looks like the EVC Skylake configuration should be OK: VMware Compatibility Guide - cpu

Many thanks Scott.

Unfortunately I can't try and I prefer to go the safe way and assume that EVC is needed.

I also wouldn't want to risk anything, and configure EVC to "Skylake". Even if things work now, you never know if a possible microcode update will break things.
