storage motion from SAN to a new SAN

Spoiler

We have a cluster with VNX block devices. We will be replacing the old ESXi hosts and VNX with new ESXi hosts and new SAN devices. Both old and new ESXi hosts will be managed by the same Vcenter version 7.U3.

Should the old ESXi host and NEW ESXI have to share the LUNs to perform the storage motion?
Or it is not necessary to share the LUNs since the same vcenter manages all ESXi hosts.

No. The storage vMotion will work fine without direct access to the remote LUN. I use this all the time on our infrastructure to upgrade firmware on some hosts.

It should still work although it is slower compared to letting the traffic go through the SAN Network.

Create a cluster with new hosts and new VNX, Enable EVC. Perform svMotion from the Old cluster to the new cluster. This should solve the problem.
