Vmotion with 2 different servers

Hello,

I currently have a ML350 G6 tower server with a Intel Xeon E5520 processor and 16GB of RAM. I just bought VMware Essentials and a DL320 G7 rackmount with a Intel Xeon E5606 processor and 16GB of RAM. Will vmotion work between these 2 servers and if so any configurations that need to be done in VCenter or will vmotion work out of the box. Thanks,

Jimmy K

You'll need to enable EVC before you add hosts to your cluster.

Good day!

Specifically, you'll want to configure your EVC cluster at the Intel® "Nehalem" Generation baseline.

Thanks VirtuallyMike!! unfortunately i am not good at reading tables and not even sure of the processor family. according to the chart does the E5606 and E5520 processor will work with Vmotion after enabling EVC? Thanks,

Jimmy K

Yes, your processors share a common baseline. The baseline you'll want to configure your EVC cluster at the Intel® "Nehalem" Generation baseline. vMotion should work well after configuring your cluster like this.

Cheers,

Mike
