Live migration between servers with Intel Xeon E5410 and Intel Xeon E5506 ?

Hi.

Is it possible to run Live migration between servers with Intel Xeon E5410 and Intel Xeon E5506 CPUs ?

Both servers run ESX 4.0

Trying to migrate results an error that CPUs and hostbitys do not match.

I;m unable to et EVC (as one is Core2 family and the other is Core i7 family).

I don't mind to give up some of the "new functionality" of the Core i7.

Thanks,

Zeevik.

You need to power off all VMs on host with 55xx Xeons before turning EVC on.

Hi Zeevik,

I never tested exactly the same configuration, but from this kb, both your processors should support "Intel Xeon Core2" and "Intel Xeon 45nm Core2" EVC Modes. Have you tried enabling one of those two modes?

Good luck.

Franck

Thanks for the help.

Indeed, the problem with enabling EVC was that I forgot to poweroff one of the VMs on the 55xx server ?:|
