Initial placement of a new VM

Hi,

When you create a new VM, it is not created in any DRS group, meaning that none of the rules in the cluster will apply to the host. If you have (like us) some VMs that are latency sensitive, this can affect performance if you forget to add the VM to one of our DRS groups.

Is there anyway of creating a default rule that would catch newly created VMs? Or maybe a way to specify it at creation?

Thank you all in advance.

Per.

No, there is no bultin way to do this. You can only add VMs to DRS groups after creation.

But you can easily script something in PowerCLI that can check things like VM name or GuestOS hostname patterns, VM folder location etc. and make sure these VMs are part of/added to your desired DRS groups.
