HP Virtual Connect Flex-10 10Gb Ethernet Module and Network profile

hi

we are on the process to purchase a virtualized solution from HP.

the interconnection modules used for the c-3000 Chassis is HP Virtual Connect Flex-10 10Gb Ethernet Module.

my question is:

does this module allow me to have the same level of management as the cisco provide vn-link in it's UCS solution.

my concern is:

some of the VMs will have a public IP address and if i apply a HA with the vMOTION and those VMs may move from one ESX server to another without having the network information move with it, that may couse the web server or whatever server that have a public IPs to fail.

so does this interconnection switch provide the same kind of configuration as VN-LINK that Cisco is using in it's UCS solution. so i can apply vMOTION and HA without any problem?

thank you.

You should allow all your VM VLANs to ALL ESX hosts in a cluster. There is no dynamic network provisioining happening during vMotion from host to another, vMotion expects that VLAN is accessible on destination host.

Flex-10 has quite small VLAN limit when used as "smart switch", its been about a year when I last configured those and then limit was something like 35 VLANs (or thereabouts). Anyhow that VLAN limit was too small so we had to configure Flex-10 as dummy passthourgh module, not great value for money.
