Hi there,
I'd like to create mapping rules to customers based on vSphere tags. I couldn't find vSphere tags as an object type in the rule creator.
Is there a way to use vSphere tags to map VMs to customers? If not, I'd encourage the devs of UM to put this feature on your list of feature requests.
regards,
Ronny
Hi Ronny,
In Usagemeter, Rules could be mapped to Customer based on the vsphere/host.
Steps to follow
1. Click Rules in the top right menu bar of the Web application.
2. Select a customer.
3. In your vSphere inventory tree, select the 'Object Type' as "host".
Note: This will select all the hosts in the vCenter Server. If you want to select the specific host, please select the individual host.
4. Click Create.
Hope, this will help you.
Note
Thanks,
Vinayaga.
Hi Vinayaga,
I know that I can create rules to map customers based on a host/folder/resource pool, etc.
But what I need is a rule which maps VMs based on specific vSphere tags to a customer.
I think this is not possible today with UM 3.6.x
regards,
Ronny
Hi Ronny,
You are correct, currently in UM 3.6.x Rules can't be directly mapped with the tags created in the vSphere Web Client.
Thanks,
Vinayaga.
Ronnysteiner1,
Most of our SPs use a naming convention on their datacenters/clusters/folders/VM names/etc to make it simple for rule creation in Usage Meter. Can you describe your use case here?
hope this help.
