Unable to configure Outgoing Email Server on vCloud Usage Meter 3.6.1 Build 7359407

While configuring the Outgoing Email Server

getting the below errors.

  • Unable to send an email because of a non-existing recipient email address.
  • Unable to send an email because of either wrong configuration of SMTP host or network error. Please update Outgoing Email Server settings or check your network settings.

Tried with the below options but no Luck and keeps failing to configure.

  • Server was allowed for both internal and external SMTP relay to send any emails.
  • re-started and re-configured the server configuration but no luck.
  • This is a New sever and Hotfix is not yet installed.
  • Changed the conflagration from DNS entry to IP address for Exchange server and proxy as well

Keep receiving the same message as "Unable to send an email because of a non-existing recipient email address."

Post Adding we tried and we have been ended at No Luck.

Seems the Email first send is still on the QUEUE and which is the one blocking to send to um-reports@vmware.com.

at the end as a try we have installed the hotfix with the below steps and re-started the server. Post patch restart we could able to successfully configure the Email Settings.

Hotfix Steps to Apply – In-Place Upgrade!!

1. Enable SSH on the appliance (if not enabled)

2. Download the patch from here

3. SCP the zip file to the appliance

4. Check SHA to ensure consistency

5. Switch user up to root (or sudo)

6. RPM -i to install the patch.

7.Reboot the appliance,

8.Done! Now you can add vCD 9.1 for successful metering

Hi,

It seems like your mail Exchange environment is not allowing SMTP relay messages.

This may happen, due to the following reasons,

  • Mail server requires authentication?
  • Recipient is not in list of domains allowed to relay to?
Thanks, Vinayaga.

I've seen this issue a few times. For both is was as @vinayag suggests:

  • Recipient is not in list of domains allowed to relay to?

You can test this by using telnet to connect to port 25 of your mailserver and try to send a message

It's trying to send an email to um-reports@vmware.com. The documentation for that is here. Alternatively check /var/log/usgmtr/um.log and /var/log/usgmtr/error.log for a better description of the error. Even if you have a working SMTP server connection the configuration will fail if it can not validate by sending it's test email to um-reports@vmware.com. You will need to whitelist outgoing emails from the appliance to that address.

Can you please read the Whole Description as i have mentioned already that the server IP address is allowed for both Internal and External SMTP relay.

Recipient is not in list of domains allowed to relay to? - Which is the recipient You mean.?
