If not mistake, there are no upgrade path for vShield Manager, It required you to fresh installation. But you may backup your configuration and import back to new vShield Manager

To update download the upgrade bundle (.tar.gz) from Vmware site & upload to vShield Manager

For instructions/steps check the vShield

- Admin Guide page 25 [https://www.vmware.com/pdf/vshield_501_admin.pdf]

- QuickStart Guide page 33 [https://www.vmware.com/pdf/vshield_501_quickstart.pdf]

Also, you can check the product Release Notes here: https://www.vmware.com/support/vshield/doc/releasenotes_vshield_501.html

On the link mentioned above --  After login you should see 2 options -- .ova & .tar.gz.

Download the tar.gz.  [See attached]

sorabhk5, thank you very much for explanation,

I did manage to download this bundle (used another download sequence on VMware website.

I also tried to backup MySQL database from my old vShield, to deploy new OVA and restore the database. And this was unsuccessfull - database from 5.0 seems incompatible with 5.0.1.

Will try to upgrade existing vShield with upgrade bundle.

Yes, that's correct. So far, database restore is not supported across versions.

You need to upgrade your vShield Manager

Blank screen issues are usually due to java cache/browser.

Can you try again after clearing the temporary files & JAVA cache. (or) Try from a different machine or browser.

Check for logs in VSM for any errors.

VSM CLI # show log follow

Database is automatically updated to new version.

Backup is required incase the upgrade fails or you need to roll-back to the older version.

Solved for me. I've read up on a different thread, that the naming of the downloaded upgrade-bundle was false. It was just .gz, renamed it to .tar.gz and upgrading worked flawlessly.
