Hi,
Starting vSphere 5.5, i can not find the "VMCI Driver" module from the vmtools installer, if i still use VCNS(Not NSX) for agentless virus protection solution(TrendMicro Deep Security for example), what module of vmtools should i install in the Windows virtual machine ? Does "NSX Guest Introspection" support both VCNS and NSX ?
Use full or custom setup when you are installing the VMware Tools
The name of drivers differ according to ESXi version, it was vShield Endpoint on ESXi earlier than 5.5u2 and Guest Introspection on 5.5u2 and later, and NSX File Introspection on 6.0 patch 1.
See the documentation from Trend Micro here: http://docs.trendmicro.com/all/ent/ds/v9.6/en-us/Deep_Security_96_Install_Guide_vmsafe_EN.pdf
Here's the guide on how to install VMware Tools/Guest Introspection
Install VMware Tools on the Windows Guest Virtual Machine
Install Guest Introspection for Linux
Make sure you are using the recommended VMware Tools version as listed here:
Does guest Introspection driver in the VM support both VCNS and NSX ?
Yes, as mentioned previously the vShield Endpoint Thin Agent name differ according to the ESXi/VMware Tools version
ESXi 5.5u2 or later will have a name "Guest Introspection Drivers"
ESXi 6.0 patch 1 or later will have a name " NSX File Introspection Driver"
If you need to confirm this, you can also open a case to VMware Support GSS or the Antivirus/Antimalware vendor for example to Trend Micro
