Can vShield Zones be on the same host as vCenter???

Jump to solution

I have installed vShield manager, and am installing vShield Zones on all of the hosts. I've stopped on the last host that has both vCenter and vShield Manager because of the warning message that appears when installing a new vSheild on a host that says if installing on a host or cluster that contains vCenter, you may encounter problems.

Is it safe to continue or is there something else I should do? I'm fairly new to the vSheild product suite.

Thanks for all the help!

Which vShield and vSphere environment are you using? But for the vShield 5 products:

If you have 1 vCenter Server make sure it's on a host which is not protected by vShield App (zones).

Read the following guide for more information:\

ALSO, if zones can't be installed on the host that vCenter lives, whats the work around? Should I migrate vCenter to a host where vsheilds are already installed and then install the zones on the last host??

Hi

If you are using vShield 5.0.1.

You can install app on the host (with vCenter) by excluding the VM's for vCenter & vShield Manager though its not recommended.

Thank you for the replies. I did read the same articles you linked me to, but I was curious if there were a safe work around. For now, until VMware changes this, I am going to leave Zones off of the host with vCenter. I would rather play it safe at this point.
