I mean, you cannot add an esx5 to a vcenter 4 unless you reinstall it to v4.But if you upgrade your host to v5 you need to upgrade your license key in myvmware.com.

Hi,

as Julien mentioned you need to upgrade the License. Little note to add: The upgrade option is only available if you got an active SnS for that license.

Hi,

What are the permissions for your account ?

pastedImage_0.png

You need to have the "Upgrade & Downgrade License keys" permission.

And as schepp mentioned above , you need an active Sns.

Julien.

That means your "Support and Subscription Services" ( the SnS I mentioned earlier) ran out or you don't have the upgrade rights in the myVMware Portal.

If your SnS ended you can not upgrade. You have to buy a new v5 license or buy SnS for the expired license ( this will be the cost of the missing SnS time + 10% fee I think - contact your sales partner to make an offer ).

You can see your SnS in the MyVMware portal if you choose "View license Keys" and click on the key, it will show the following pic with the "End Date" at which your SnS will expire .

Well then as Julien said, check your permissions on that Folder where the key is located in ( MyVMware -> Users & Permission -> My Permission -> choose the folder where the key is in )

Sure Smiley Wink

We cannot see your screenshot but i believe you got a message telling you that your host is already connect to a vcenter , so yes you can proceed. The vcenter will uninstall the old agent and reinstall the new one..

Ok so its because your host is still in vsphere 4. You can choose  "Use Key" to import the key currently provided to your host.
