vcenter 55 appliance - is it possible to upgrade a vcenter 4.0 u2 database, using the appliance?

And really - just wondering how upgrades in general work going from non-appliance to appliance? Or, is it necessary to "start over" with a fresh db? When I look at the interop matrix, it really does not distinguish between the appliance and the windows vcenter - is there no difference in the process and/or the supported dbs and supported upgrade paths?

the more I dig into this, the more it just looks like you cannot upgrade from a windows vcenter to a vcenter appliance. Or, I don't see it referenced/discussed anywhere.

At the very least, the supported dbs appear to be only the embedded postgre DB, or an oracle external db. So, if you have a windows DB, no go for upgrade.

Thoughts? Am I correct in this?
