vSphere version mix of ESXi 5.5 and vCenter 6.5

Hello.

We are thinking about to upgrade our vSphere environment to the following version mix (from VMware site OK?!):

ESXi     5.5U3 (Upgrade to 6.5 is not possible due Storage)

vCSA     6.5

Does anybody have experience with this mix in an production environment?

Thanks.

K

You can have a mix and match of hosts and vCenter. Just make sure the vCenter is of higher version as a lower version VC will not manage an ESXi server of higher version than it's own.

Also, if you mix and match the host versions you need to make sure the hardware versions of the VMs are of the a supported baseline so the VMs can move around the cluster.

vCenter Server 6.5 can manage ESXi version 5.5 or 6.0 hosts in the same cluster with ESXi 6.5 hostsvCenter Server 6.5 cannot manage ESXi 5.1 or earlier hosts.
