vSphere vCenter on Server 2008 R2

Hello Smiley Wink

We've just upgraded to vSphere 4 and now it's Time to configure HA. Server 2008 is supported by http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere4/r40/vsp_compatibility_matrix.pdf.

But what about Server 2008 R2, the most faster and more stable Server?

<Hi,

Welcome to the forum Smiley Happy

I think Server 2008 R2 RTM came out just a month back.

VC 4.0 came out in May'09 so it doesn't support Server 2008 R2 yet.

Thanks.

Server 2k8R2 is faster and resource-friendly.

I prefer use Windows 2003 that is more resource-friendly and has a small disk footprint Smiley Wink

Until now W2k8 R2 is not supportes.

So use W2k3 or w2k8 only!

Good luck!

Win 2008 R2 is not supported for VCentre installations (yet)

I agree with Andre though - 2003 has a smaller footprint and is generally a better solution as a VM.

One day I will virtualise myself . . .

We installed VCenter on a Windows 2008 64 Bit Enterprise server. Right now we have 9 Gb of memory which seems high, but it is a 64 bit OS.

Did not use the R2 version...yet

its not supported, is the official word, but I have been testing out our upgrade path and so far it seems to work just fine. on 2K8 R2, however I can only report that it works with the core install, meaning I haven't tried all the other parts that come with vSphere server

although R2 isnt officially supported it does work.

HOWEVER. the client needs tweaking on the server to get it run and I have had issues using converter, whether the converter issue was to do with 2008 r2 or not is being investigated.

And to backup previous comments a basic 2008 R2 install is 20gb BEFORE you put on any other software.

I am rebuilding my VC on 2003 to compair performance and converting
