vSphere Web Client Fails

I'm not sure of the correct forum for this question. I'm trying to connect from my workstation to the Web Client for a vCenter 5.1.0 Server. All I get is "This page can't be displayed" or a close equivalent in IE, Firefox, or Chrome. On the other hand, I am able to connect to the vCenter using the old vSphere client. And everyone else in my office is able to connect to this vCenter using the Web Client, so I'm the only one who can't. Rebooting my workstation didn't help. I've got VMware Client Integration Plug-in 5.1.0 installed on my workstation. What can I do to resolve this problem?

Thanks!

Are you able to open the vCenter Server's default web page?

Please check whether there are any firewall rules or proxy settings in place which prevent you from accessing the Web Client.

Hi Jf,

Did you add the vCenter IP address to the Trusted Site in the IE settings?

Thanks,

Do you have flash installed?  Any security settings on flash?

Thanks virtualdive, The vCenter hostname and IP address are already in the Trusted Sites in IE, so this is not the problem.

markdjones82, Flash is installed. I never previously modified the security settings, but I have looked at them now by going to the Adobe Flash Settings Manager at https://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager04.html. I have ensured that each item is set to a lenient value, usually "Always Ask." This doesn't seem to have helped.

I notice that if I use Mozilla Firefox, the error message is "The connection was reset. The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading." Chrome just says "This webpage is not available." IE says "This page can't be displayed."

I tried turning off my firewall, but this made no difference.

Thanks in advance for any additional suggestions.

danandrews,

I'm using a URL of the form  https://vCenterhostname:9443/vsphere-client
I tried adding a /# to make it look more like you example, but that didn't help. By the way, this URL works fine for other people in my office.

André,

I checked my proxy settings in IE and discovered, to my surprise, that a proxy was set. I turned it off and now I can access the web client!

Thanks for your help!

That is weird.  I have always been able to open the vSphere Web Client (5.5) by going to this URL: https://vcenter-server.domain.com:9443/  - but all the sudden today it just quit working.  The vSphere Client works fine. So after some piddling around and checking the web, and restarting services and checking firewall ports, it all boils down to the URL I have been using.  I do not know why it doesn't work anymore, but if I use this URL instead: https://vcenter-server.domain.com:9443/vsphere-client/#  - then it works fine!  I guess it would be nice to know why, but as long as it works I'm good.  Thanks in advance to anyone who can explain why it behaved this way, but it is not critical.

Best regards!
