vCenter to net new vCenter srever and database - migration help

Hi all,

We're about to go through the following process: Physical vCenter server with vm's running on network1 and network2 to virtual vCenter server running a new database and ONLY network1. My question is, is there a migration process for the vDS's so that when the esxi host (and vm's) are migrated to the new vcenter, the vm would "know" which portgroup to attach itself to and not lose connection? Because we're using a new database and a new vDS name, how would the vm's know which portgroup/vlan to use unless we manually set it during which time there would be an outage of however long it took to make the network label change.

One thing to note is that while network2 is technically going away (the physical switch), we are migrating and trunking the vlans over from it so we don't have to re-IP those machines on network2.

Thanks!

maybe you can do it with powerCLI script so you don't have to manually edit all the vm's

but i think there will be always downtime since your switching the network
