vCenter client and windows 7 fonts

The vCenter client looks like crap on windows 7.... anyone have a fix yet? the fonts are terrible!

vSphere client 4.0 update 1 works fine on Windows 7, what version of vSphere client are you using ? and did u check http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1011329

Not a VI Client issue, this is your video card or drivers. I have Windows 7, I see fonts just fine. So therefore must be isolated on your machine.

If you don't believe me, that's ok. Check the forum, do a search for font issues, you will see font issues are non-existent. basically fonts aren't a function of the software.

Fonts are a direct result of drivers, if they don't work in Windows 7 you probably have some monitor setting or software installed that's interfering with VI Client.

That is simply not true about the fonts.

OK first that's not relevant to VI Client.

Second, that developer CHOSE to use WPF rather than GDI for fonts. Still not a VM Ware problem

Third, I still say you are pretty much the only one with the problem with VI Client and Windows 7, because on THIS forum there haven't been any issues reported about fonts.

Then you can change things like font smoothing, especially for LCD displays.. everything else may look ok because they are OLDER applications.

But the problem isn't affecting everyone, so SOMETHING with your machine is different.

The only reason I posted the link to Evernote is because you said font rendering is up to video drivers (only). That's not the case; for all I know vmware did something similar and used something that makes text look like that on Windows 7. I'm exploring possibilities, and looking for help.

Yes, and I stick by my original response, it IS drivers, read the article YOU posted.. that part about Anti-Aliasing... You posted the article, but you didn't read it?

Yes, and since you are the ONLY one with the problem it's NOT a VM Ware VI Client software problem. That's what I am trying to tell you. You want to believe that because you installed VI Client, and XP was working fine, Windows 7 is not it MUST be VM Ware. That's where I don't see the correlation. If you installed VI Client on XP ONLY THEN maybe you would be on to something, but seeing as how you changed OS (and probably hardware), drivers, and the VI Client (you did install the latest version right?), then perhaps the problem isn't with VI Client at all.

It could be a setting, which IS driver related. That's my point. If new applications are using WPF, it may be beneficial for you to figure out what's CHANGED with the .NET rather than simply discounting VI Client as a font problem.

VM Ware doesn't display fonts, it's an application. Those applications behave differently due to MANY factors. Or it could simply be whatever hardware you are running Windows 7 on is NOT on the Windows 7 HCL. There could be a myriad of reasons, bottom line is VM Ware is NOT to blame if it only affects a minute amount of users.

You're not being helpful. You're defending your case, pointing fingers, and arguing about how fonts are displayed on my screen.

There is ONE program on this computer that doesn't render fonts correctly. Let's be honest and eliminate some obvious things here.

Fact: I have 90 programs on this PC that all display fonts correctly.

Fact: The VMWare client (Version 4.01) does not display fonts correctly.

Simple (non-scientific) conclusion: There is something "funny" with the way vmware is displaying fonts.

Would you say that Evernotes problem is NOT an evernote problem, but a video driver problem?

Here is the vSphere client running in a Windows 7 VDI machine on vCenter 4.0 with the vmware tools installed. So the video drivers are from vmware.

Same ugly fuzzy foggy fonts.

Hi Aaron,

you´re not the only one with this problem. My vSphere Client looks sluggish too after installing Windows7 with vSphere Client 4.1. Tried to fix it with the Cleartype Settings but nothing changes, still terrible fonts. Only vSphere Client affected all other Applications look fine.

Hey Guys,

what i found out so far is, that when i connect from home to my Win7 Workstation in the Office via RDP, the Fonts in vSphere Client look Crystal clear to me, as they should be. When i am back in Office i try to turn off some of the Visual Effects in the Properties (Control Panel -> System and Security -> System -> Advanced System Settings -> Performance -> Settings -> Visual Effects) maybe one of them is the root cause for this issue. But if so ... i wonder why only vSphere Client is affected. I will keep you updated ...

i was completly wrong with my assumption that it has something todo with the visual effects in win7. Disabled all of them but nothing changes, fonts still looking blurry ... damn.
