vCenter Upgrade

If I upgrade from vCenter 5.5 to 6.0, will there be any changes on the database?

Current vCenter is having an external SQL database since embedded database is not sufficient.

I heard that If you are using an embedded database, it will be converted to postgre type database.

Thanks!

Since you're using an external MSSQL database then the upgrade will not change that.

If you are using MS SQL Express on the vCenter Server then yes, it will be converted to vPostgres (see vSphere 6.0 Documentation Center). However, in vSphere 6.0 the vPostgres database that is part of the vCenter Server Appliance, delivers the same scale as MSSQL or Oracle. There are still some scale limitations with vPostgres on Windows (see https://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere6/r60/vsphere-60-configuration-maximums.pdf).

Thanks for the response!

I will definitely consider this.

Do we have any vCenter upgrade checklists or documentation?

Chapter 3 is where the upgrade pre-check list starts.

Hi ,

Check the vCenter version and vCOPS version. As per the Compatibility matrix if you have vCenter 6.0 or U1 and vCOPS version 5.8.5 then it will work else NO Smiley Sad

vCenter is installed on a different directory/drive, will during upgrade that the installation recognize this or it will install on the default vCenter directory?
