vCenter Server SQL update

Hello All! I'm running VC on a physical server with SQL 2005 Standard installed. I want to update SQL to the latest service pack, is there a "best practices" for doing this? Do I need to do anything to my virtual environment before I patch SQL on the server (3 Esx 3.5 up1 hosts)? Thanks!

Current Environment:

VC 2.5 on Windows Server 2003 SP2 (physical)

3 ESX 3.5 UD 1 host servers

18 VM's

EQL PS400E iSCSI SAN

The only thing I would recommend is backing up the database prior to the update.
