vCenter SQL DB Recovery Model

Hi Folks,

Our infrastructure is having 7 node VMware cluster at both DC and DR. Seperate SQL DB server is used for vCenter, SRM and Update Manager.

Inventory (configuration) objects will not be changed frequently. Keeping this in mind I have selected 'simple' recovery model for all these DB.

Now reading Microsoft Ariticle saying in simple recovery model, data changed from last backup will not be recovered. Here I'm bit worried.

Whether Logs created after last backup is really important for recovery? Besides SQL agent based backup is scheduled on daily basis and also we are taking backup before and after any changed in VMware inventory. (like VM creation, VM configuration change, etc..)

It depends on how you want to set it up. Simple may not be the best option though.

thank you guys... Now I'm planning to change the recovery model to Full and take daily backup (agent based)....

Any idea whether SQL logs will be automatically flushed to free up the space after every backup?

Im no SQL expert but i think the logs get commited to the database when you do a full backup, you should also schedule frequent transaction log backup during the day so you can roll back to a certain period if you need to. Otherwise you will ony be able to restore to the most recent full backup.

if you really want simply and best solution. then to recover the damage or corrupt database or to access the data from the inaccessible database you can simply go for recovery tool . you can take microsoft help also because it is the best.
