vCenter Foundation Maximum

Hi,

Need your guys help.

Kinda confused with the maximum CPU supported for the vCenter Foundation.

vCenter Foundation support a maximum of 3 hosts.

But what is the maximum CPU supported per host?

Already search through the community, some said 2 CPU, and some said 16 CPU?

Appreciate your time.

Thanks.

Hello.

But what is the maximum CPU supported per host?

"...VMware Infrastructure 3 Foundation will have no restrictions on shared storage connectivity, memory utilization or number of CPUs of the physical server." - p.3 VMware Infrastructure 3 Pricing, Packaging and Licensing Overview

Just out of curiosity, are you still using vi3?

Good Luck!

Hi there,

Thanks for the reply.

Yup, read about that already.

I was referring to vSphere 4 vCenter Foundation.

Found nothing on vSphere 4 pricing document though.

Thanks.

Thanks Troy.

Already read that before, based on my comment to vmroyale.

It doesn't state the maximum num of CPU per host.

Or did I miss something?

Thanks.

I would call 1-877-486-9273

I would ask what will you be managing? Since this is a stand alone purchase you would also be required to add licensed ESX(i) hosts.

what product suite are you using for ESX(i)

The only difference between vCenter Standard and vCenter Foundation is the limitation to the 3 hosts. The number of CPUs per host is not related to vCenter Foundation, it's related to the host itself. See CPU limits per host in the link Troy provided earlier.

... maybe you mixed this up with vCenter Server for Essentials where the CPU limt per host is 2.

Ahhh... I see...

So, there's no difference between vCenter Foundation and vCenter Standard in managing multiple CPU licenses then... ^_^

I tried searching through the community, and found some of the post saying that the vCenter Foundation supports up to 3 host with 2 CPU each only...

So, that's where I got confused...

Currently I'm proposing my customer with 3 host with 4 CPU each by using vCenter Foundation, but suddenly got a bit curious on the CPU thing and found out those answers as I mention above...

Guess, there's nothing wrong with then! Smiley Happy

Thanks Andre, Troy, DSTAVERT, and vmroyale!

Now I can relax.

Just keep in mind your customer will be screwed if he/she plans to go beyond 3 host. There is no upgrade path for licenses.. he/she will have to repurchase the product.. u probably know this already but just wanted to point that out..

Bilal,

Yes, I am very aware of that. Thanks for pointing out.

Currently am trying to reduce as much price as I can to fight with Xen Citrix. Smiley Wink

Customer really insist on 4 CPU per server, though it would be much better if it were on 2 CPU if I am going against Xen Citrix.

Not much choice, so need to do something on cutting the cost down in some area.

DSTAVERT,

Hahaha... yeah... at least for now... ^_^

bilalhashmi,

that's not quite correct, you can upgrade from vCenter Server from Foundation to Standard. see e.g. Upgrade: VMware vCenter Server Foundation to vCenter Server Standard

It's only the Essentials Kits which cannot exceed 3 hosts. However, there are also upgrade paths from Essentials/Essentials Plus to e.g. the Standard Acceleration Kit. see this link
