I am trying to upgrade from vCenter 6.5 server appliance to 7.0 server appliance. During stage 2 I get the following error during the Pre-upgrade check results. "Error Invalid root credentials for source appliance (IP of vCenter 6.5): Authentication failed."
I have confirmed that I am able to login to the web interface with the password. Also the password worked when I put it in during stage 1 of the upgrade.
I also tried going from 6.5 to 6.7 and got the following error.
Error: "Could not authenticate to source appliance OS on address (IP of vCenter 6.5).
Resolution: "Verify that source appliance OS credentials are correct."
I have verified that they are correct.
Any ideas or do I just need to spin up a new vCenter Appliance OS and move my hosts to it?
Log in via SSH and change the root password. I've run into this on several occasions.
Hi,
Login to WEB is with other credentials as in SSH where is needed to root.
You can try if you can log to the appliance (IP-FQDN:5480) with you root credentials if you have the good root password.
change the root password then try
Both errors with 6.7/7.0 are indicating an issue with root password. is the password too long ? try setting something simple with applicable criteria and try. also check the version trying to upgrade is back in time upgrade ?
