vCenter 6.5 fails after expired certifiacte

Hello all,

out vCenter's certifiacte expired this weekend and I could not login,

So I tried to reset the certificates by logging via console and running

/usr/lib/vmware-vmca/bin/certificate-manager

I then ran option 8 to reset them all.

It all ended with an error. Looking at the certificate-manager.log, I can see this:

Service-control failed. Error Failed to start vmon services.vmon-cli RC=1, stderr=Failed to start vpxd-svcs, cm, vapi-endpoint services. Error: Operation timed out

If I try to run the services manually by service-control --status --all

it ends up with error:

Service-control failed. Error Failed to start vmon services.vmon-cli RC=2, stderr=Failed to start cm services. Error: Service crashed while starting.

I googled extensively for several hours, tried a lot of suggestions, but I am at an end.

vCenter is unusable and web interface still ends with error

503 Service Unavailable (Failed to connect to endpoint: [N7Vmacore4Http20NamedPipeServiceSpecE:0x0000557a462357e0] _serverNamespace = / action = Allow _pipeName =/var/run/vmware/vpxd-webserver-pipe).

Even though the certificate is already new.

Any help would be hugely appreciated.
