vCenter 5.1 installation issues

Hi

I am practically new to VMware vSphere, although I do have a lot of experience with Hyper-V.

I am having issues just logging into the vCenter server through the vSphere client (and the web client as well). When I try to authenticate using the client I get the error the "vSphere Client could not connect to <SERVER>. You do not have permission to login to the server <SERVER>"

I have tried installing and re-installing SSO, Inventory Service and vCenter server using both the Simple Install and by installing each component separately with no success at all. if I use a random user name and password I do get an bad user name/password so I can assume at least I am hitting the vCenter server, it just doesn't seem to like the admin@System-Domain account. When I use the vSphere client against the ESXi server itself, there in no problem, I can log in perfectly.

I was wondering if there is some configuration that I missed perhaps?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance

Tim

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it.

The environment that I have my vCenter and SSO installed is a W2K8R2 VM in VMware Workstation. The VM is a member of AD, and I have tried both local and domain administrator accounts with no success. I have gone through that link you provided with no success, I don't know what else to try, it just seems not to want to work.

This is a brand new install of vSphere 5.1, not an upgrade either.

Make sure you have your default domain added within the web client an it is the top option
