vCenter 5.1.0b does not Support vSphere ESXi 5.0.0??

I ran into a weird error today at work.

Immediately after installing vCenter 5.1.0b, I attempted to add an ESXi 5.0.0 host to a newly created datacenter.

I  encountered an error that stated, vCenter does not support hosts of this type.

I thought, really?  The compatibility matrix says that it does.

At that point I left for the day and will address this on Monday.

In the meanwhile, has anyone encountered such an error?

... vCenter does not support hosts of this type.

Could you please provide the exact error message!?

At which step in the "Add Host" wizard did you receive the error message?

How is the host currently licensed? With the free Hypervisor license?

I have to provide the exact error message on Monday.  It was too late in the day and I was ready to go home.

The error message occurred after completion of the steps, but at the 90% mark while adding the host.

As far as the hypervisor is concerned, I do believe that it is a very limited version of vSphere, because when I checked the features of the host, I noticed that it had only two features:

1. 8 CPUs

2. SMP

I think you are on to something, I will attempt to add one of our vSphere ESXi Standard hosts to vCenter.

It appears that the version of ESXi 5.0 was one that came with a Dell server from the factory. After applying the correct license, everything worked.

Thanks.
