vCenter 4.x learning lessons

Where do I start? My big problem is migrating the vcenter database between two servers. I have a wreaked server that needs serious downtime. So I need to create a new vcenter server but how do I go about this.

The new vCenter server (Win2008x64/Sql2008x64?) does this even work? I inherited this old vCenter server so I'm happy that I have a new one.

Some reading material please.

Welcoem to the Forums -As long as your vCenetr is 4.x WIndows 2008 will work both as an OS and database - if you can get a backup of the database and restore to the new database server should be all you need - and when you build the new vCenter server have the System DSN point ot the new server -

Section 5 of http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere4/r41/vsp_41_upgrade_guide.pdf ,ight contain some useful information to help you move the vCenter server
