  • 1.  vCenter 4 Essentials and vCenter Converter Plugin?

    Posted Jun 12, 2010 12:12 AM

We purchased vSphere 4 Essentials Bundle with vCenter 4 Essentials for a client, have installed ESX, a Windows 2008 server, and vCenter on that server. I am not getting ready to test migrate from physical to virtual, but can't seem to find the vCenter Converter plugin in the vSphere client. I was on the phone with VMWare for 30 minutes this afternoon and they still couldn't help me?!

So either vCenter Converter is not licensed with the Essentials bundle ( which would be a bummer ) OR I am missing something.

Does anyone have any thoughts or advice?

    Thanks in advance,

    Bill

From the VI client do you see converter listed under the Plugin-ins tab?

No... that is what is tripping me up. From everything I read, it should be licensed under the version we purchased but it is not available under Plugins...

May be a stoopid question, but someone has to ask: Did you install vCenter Converter? Is the service running?

I believe that may be the part I am missing. I don't think I selected that option when installing vCenter, but will check it shortly...

    Thanks for the info!!

It is a separate option. When you "autorun" the vCenter installer DVD, there is a selection for vCenter Converter.
