vCenter 4.* Backup

Hi,

we are running our VC as a VM, the DB is Oracle on another server.

The DB is backed up as BAU.

Do we need to backup the VC VM?

We are trying to find out where the folder structure and user roles are stored.

eg.  if our VM dies, we power up new vm , install VC software and connect to DB.

Will all the folder structure and roles we created still be there?

Anything else on the VC that we should know about?

in the case of failure, connecting back to an existing DB will also restore the permissions and roles.

as long as you have the DB backed up, that is where all the data is stored.  In the event of a crash, rebuild a new vCenter VM, connect back to the existing DB and you'll be up and running in 20 or so minutes.

Hello.

Will all the folder structure and roles we created still be there?

The roles are stored in ADAM on the vCenter server.

Good Luck!
