vCenter 4.1 U1 new installation

We were running vCenter 4.0 on a 32 bit window 2003 server.

We wanted to upgrade to vCenter 4.1 U1. We were able to install vCenter server and vSphere client on a newly installed window 2003 R2 SP2 64 bit server. We were able to have vCenter 4.1 U1 point to the old SQL database and upgrade it itself.

However, we were not able to install vCenter converter and vCenter update manager. We kept having the register/unregister type of error.

We tried to unstall the whole vCenter server and clean up the registry. Tried to install vCenter again with no success. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

we did try that, it did not work.

We asked the database administrator to give us a copy of the database before the upgrade. We are planning to install the 4.0 on this 64 bit environment and then upgrade to 4.1. Assuming that 4.0 installation was successful.

any other suggestions are welcomed.
