vCenter 2.5 no Snapshot possible

Hi,

a VM with a vmdk disk (C) and a RDM disk was working fine with the backup vRanger 4.x. Since day's the snapshot (only disk C) is not more possible.

I checked the Backupsoftware, and later I wanted to do a manually snapshot on the VC2.5. If I click "Snapshot" the Take a snapshot is greyed out.

I checked the VMtools and reinstalled with a newer version (81859). I stoped the vm, put those VM out the VC and added the vm back.

I copied the .vzmutex away with all logs, but all this did not work.

If I connect direct to those esx server (not to the vc) I can do a snapshot!

So the problem must be on the vc? right?

What can I do that in the VC the snapshot is working (and my Backups)?

Thanks for your help!

Hi,

I am a little step ahead.....I created a new VM on the esx host with a normal vmdk disk (snapshot is working...), then I restored back Windows 2003. When I created the second Disk (raw-disk) then the Snapshot is greyed out, So it is because a RAW disk is in this VM. What I can't understood is that it was working before???

Result: Then it is not possible only to snapshot the normal vmdk disk? NO vRangerbackups?

is the RDM in virtual or physical mode. You need virtual to snapshot vmware-wise and physical for array snapshots
