I do not want to use a full SQL server for this upgrade and from reviewing things for the environment and the vcenter appliance will be a great for this environment. However I do not want to start from scratch. My Lab environment (that devs actually use) is vsphere 5.1 with SQL express as the DB and want to upgrade to vcenter 5.5.
I was thinking that I can deploy the vcenter appliance and use the vmware fling that does the inventory snapshot to export the data out of the vcenter 5 (SQL Express) and import the data into the appliance? Any drawbacks to this method?
Since there is no upgrade path and I really do not want to do a manual entry of this task and would rather try to automate what I can with the fling method. Thoughts?
