upgrade of virtual Centre from 4.1.0 to version 5

I need to upgrade our virtual centre from 4.1.0 to version 5 and wanted to find out if there was a best practice guide ??

Our current virtual center is a vm and before upgrade I would obviously back up database and snapshot Virtual machine in case anything that may happen in upgrade process

Any feed back would be gladly appreciated
