unable to mount device for added storage for datastore

How do I remount a device that shows up in a Host Configuration Device but not Datastore.  I tried to add storage for the host but there is no DISK/LUN that shows up to add??   I have rescanned all hoping it would find it - running ESXi 5.1

suggestions on things to try?

You can try from the CLI. I am assuming it doesn't have data on it.

What is the device status on the Host Configuration Device?
Is it Mounted?
If it is not mounted yet, try to Attach the device (highlight, right click, attach)

The device is attached but doesn't show up in an add storage with a valid LUN - from datastorage is seems invisible but from device it shows up like I should be able to add it.  It does have data on it that I want to try and get off - I am moving from an old SAN to a new SAN and was in the middle of detaching devices - I now want to re-mount it

it does show up on the host in a storage core device list - Status ON

Initiate another host scan and then view the kernel.log

Is there a name conflict? Do you gave a datastore with the same name that it previously used?

This document is useful to viewing the lun and information about it.
