testing upgrade to VC4

Hi,

I would like to test the upgrade from VC3.5U4 to VC4. Do you think it is a good idea to import my physival VC with VMware converter, do the same for the DB server, put the two converted guests on a closed network segment and then start the upgrade process just to check it runs OK?

Sounds like a good plan to me. We are actually taking this opportunity to split our SQL from vCenter. Our process will be to build two new VM's and import the old database. Then run the upgrade. This leaves the old vCenter server alone for a fallback point. We ran through this in our test lab and it went very smoothly.

Hi,

I just converted my VC and isolated it to non-linked vswitch. I have rebuilt a SQL server and restored the VC database.

I have recreated the ODBC connection and i can test succesfully the connection. However VC service doesnt want to start. I guess i am missing some active directory stuff ( a DC for instance Smiley Wink )

I get this error in the logs:

i recreated my dsn with the 2005 native client and now it works... My new DB server for testing is running 2005 whereas the original one is running 2000.

Is the only VMware service that will not start?

The upgrade has changed the DB data and schema (in this case is not a DB problem)?
